Community Governance Review

"A Community Governance Review provides an opportunity to put in place strong, clearly defined boundaries, which reflect local identities and facilitate effective and convenient local government."

Pilton West Parish is included in the proposed changes for the North Devon district.

The first round of Public Consultations ended on the 30th September 2025. Pilton West Parish Council along with the strong representation of parishioners managed to get two out of the three original options rejected from the plan. The only option to remain was for Shearford Close and/or Trayne Heights to be moved into the boundaries of Barnstaple Town Council.

A second round of Public Consultations ended on Friday 30th January 2026. Pilton West Parish Council along with another strong representation from the parishioners managed to overturn all proposals to move areas of Pilton West Parish into the boundaries of Barnstaple Town Council. The North Devon District Council Governance Committee made this decision on 10 March 2026 implying that the response from the consultation was the main factor influencing their decision,

Pilton West Parish Council would like to thank all parishioners who responded to the consultation which resulted in no changes to the boundaries of Pilton West Parish.

For reference, the link below shows the different Council Tax rates by property band for each of the North Devon District Parishes. Please note the proposed implications of moving to within the boundary of Barnstaple Town Council
